Terms of Use and Data Protection Policy

1. General information

17wonders is a free platform dedicated to sharing and discovering haiku. By using this site, you accept these terms of use and acknowledge our data protection policy.

2. Account creation

Creating an account allows you to:

  • publish haiku,
  • add kigo and tags,
  • comment,
  • follow other authors,
  • use the internal messaging system.

To create an account, you must provide:

  • a username,
  • a valid email address,
  • a password.

You are responsible for keeping your password confidential. 17wonders cannot be held liable in case of unauthorized use of your account.

3. User‑generated content

By publishing haiku on the site, you remain the holder of your copyrights. However, you grant 17wonders a non‑exclusive license to display your content on the site, across its various pages and features.

You agree to publish only content that is:

  • constructive and respectful of others,
  • free of hateful, discriminatory, violent, or illegal speech,
  • content you have the rights to publish.

Haiku reported by multiple users may be temporarily hidden for review.

4. Acceptable use of the site

The following are prohibited:

  • automated use of the site,
  • using artificial intelligence to write haiku,
  • actions intended to disrupt the proper functioning of the service,
  • creating multiple accounts to circumvent rules,
  • harassment or sending inappropriate messages via the internal messaging system.

Any breach may result in suspension or permanent deletion of the account and associated content.

5. Personal data: minimal collection

17wonders strives to respect users’ privacy by processing a minimum amount of personal data.

5.1. Data collected

We collect only the data strictly necessary for the operation of the site:

  • username,
  • email address,
  • password (hashed and never stored in plain text),
  • chosen primary language.

5.2. Cookies

The site only uses a session cookie required for login. No analytics, advertising, or tracking cookies are used. The site does not use any audience measurement system.

5.3. Use of data

  • Collected data is used only to:
  • create your account,
  • sign you in,
  • display your haiku,
  • enable interactions between users,
  • ensure the security of the service.
  • Data is not shared with any third party.

5.5. Right to deletion

You can delete your account at any time via My account > Privacy. Deleting the account will remove:

  • your profile,
  • your haiku,
  • your comments,
  • your private messages.

Public contributions (kigo, tags, etc.) that have been reused by other users may be retained in anonymized form.

We recommend backing up your haiku using the export tool provided for this purpose before deleting your account (see My account > Privacy).

6. Security

17wonders implements appropriate security measures to protect your data, including data minimization which reduces risks by limiting collection and storage to what is strictly necessary. However, no system is entirely risk‑free. By using the site, you accept this reality.

7. Service availability

The site is developed and maintained by a single person. I strive to ensure a stable service, but I cannot guarantee the absence of interruptions or bugs. Likewise, I cannot guarantee perpetual retention of your data and encourage authors to regularly back up their haiku using the export tool available via My account > Privacy.

8. Changes to the terms

These terms may be modified to improve the service or comply with legal obligations. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
